After Sep 2020 ban, Battleground Mobile to come to India
In September 2020, a lot of Chinese apps were banned and PUBG was also among them. This step had to be taken as a prolonged border standoff took place between the India and China.
It was after the ban that the PUBG Corp, the subsidiary of Krafton, severed the ties with Tencent of India. The PUBG fans in India were left shattered only to be excited when Krafton announced that they are ready with Battleground Mobile to come to India.
“Battlegrounds Mobile India will release with exclusive in-game events like outfits and features and will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues. The game will launch as a free-to-play experience on mobile devices,” Krafton said in a statement.
According to SensorTower data befre PUBG was banned , India accounted over 175 million downloads which is about a quarter of the global figure.
Arrival boosts India’s gaming market
Krafton has not yet announced an exact release date of the game. Further, there will be a pre-registration link going up before it is released for everyone. Users will likely have to register on Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, and wait till the game becomes available for download.
“The announcement of Battlegrounds Mobile India boosts India’s growing mobile gaming market,” said Rupantar Guha, associate project manager, the thematic research, Global Data, which estimates the mobile gaming market in the country to be worth over $1 billion in 2021.
